Loving Community Mural
July 2011
I had the privilege to partner with Architreasures on a community mural project at 51st & Martin Luther King Dr, on the South Side of Chicago. Architreasures aim is to "reduce social isolation by creating grassroots partnerships to build public spaces, empowering individuals to shape their future and the future of their community."
I worked directly with the tenants of the building over the duration of a month to jointly come up with the concept. A surprising number of young children attended the workshops every week. Each participant cut out (there was a line to use the scroll saw) and created their own heart, many with hand prints. This mural was the inaugural project at this building, with the intention to spur additional programs to beautify the building and community.
